Lithium batteries are highly efficient energy storage media that are ideal for a wide range of applications. Considering the burgeoning demand for energy, storing energy has an especially important role to play. That means that the need for high-performance batteries will continue to increase.

With the breath-taking increase in lithium battery applications, manufacturers, installers and users also have to increasingly come to terms with safety. For instance, technical defects or incorrect handling of these batteries when storing, charging or operating them can cause the energy stored to be discharged in an uncontrolled fashion, which often causes fires.

Companies must take this increased fire risk into account when storing batteries or actively operating battery storage facilities.

The insurance company FM Global as well as the German Insurance Association are sending reminders:

„…special precautions are necessary for the storage of Li-ion batteries!“

 

Universally usable pop-over enclosure for comprehensive fire protection in case of active or passive storage of
lithium-ion batteries. The enclosure is open at the bottom and is fitted with stable corner angles. The lifting eyebolts enable easy transport and easy moving into position. The enclosure can also be popped over the batteries when they begin to burn. The fire enclosure
has a fire resistance rating of 90 minutes.

Storage container for separate storage of defective or damaged batteries with increased fire risk within a safety cabinet as well as minimisation of toxic fumes associated with a thermal runaway.

The storage container is lined with a nonflammable and non-conductive thermal insulation material and contains additional filler and insulation material, which also absorbs leaking electrolytes.
Rechargeable batteries must be enclosed all-round and fully with the filler pack, so that even if a thermal runaway occurs – a chemical reaction with extreme heat development – the risk of fire propagation is prevented.
