3D turbula type industrial mixers for safe and homogeneous mixing of explosive and pyrotechnic powders

The Alphie Explosive Powder Mixer series is designed for safe and homogeneous mixing of explosive and combustible powders using a three dimensional turbula mixing motion.

The Extended Shaft (ES) series, developed by Hexagon, provides a safe solution for preparing powder mixtures used in fireworks and pyrotechnic manufacturing.

The mixer is designed so that the drive unit and the mixing unit are separated by a partition wall. This ensures that the motor and mechanical drive components remain isolated from the mixing chamber where explosive powders are handled.

The drum holder is manufactured from high-grade heat-treated aluminium alloy casting with dynamically balanced rotating parts. Shafts are made of high alloy steel with corrosion-resistant coating and sealed bearings.

Removable Mixing Drum

One of the key features of Alphie mixers is the removable mixing container design.

In this system the powder does not go directly into the mixer. Instead:

  1. Powder is filled into a dedicated mixing container

  2. The container is sealed

  3. The sealed container is placed into the mixer

This design prevents powder from being exposed to the atmosphere during mixing and improves operational safety.

Ability to Use Different Containers

Alphie mixers are designed to accommodate containers of different shapes, sizes and materials.

If required, more than one container can be placed inside the mixer at the same time.

Suitable container holders can also be supplied to ensure that the mixing containers remain firmly fixed during operation.

Mixer Installation

Alphie mixers are delivered in knocked-down condition and installed at the site.

The mixing drum is assembled after the partition wall is constructed. The drive unit is installed and anchored on the other side of the wall.

For safety, Alphie mixers can be supplied with:

• flame proof electric motors
• ATEX certified motors (optional)
• FLP safety switches for doors
• safety interlock systems

The mixer can only start when the mixing room is closed and the operator has exited the room.

For fireworks applications, Alphie mixers are designed according to PESO standards, and machines can also be manufactured to comply with other international regulations.

Control Panel

Alphie mixers are supplied with a control system including:

• Timer
• Variable Frequency Drive (VFD)

Users can set parameters such as:

• container speed
• mixing time

The control panel is programmed with full safety interlocks to prevent accidents.

Control panels can also be supplied in accordance with CE certification requirements.

Operator Friendly Panel Features

• Mixer automatically stops at the container loading position after each mixing cycle
• Actual process times, set speeds and rotation direction are displayed during operation
• Mixing cycles can be paused and resumed without losing parameters
• Mixer automatically stops when the safety guard is opened
• Operation resumes when the guard is closed
• PLC retains remaining process time after power failure or emergency stop

Lifetime Access to Technical Documentation

Each Alphie mixer includes a QR code on the machine nameplate.

By scanning the QR code users can access:

• technical documents
• operating manuals
• electrical wiring diagrams
• training videos

All documentation is available for lifetime access.

Mixing Containers

Mixing containers can be manufactured from various materials including:

• stainless steel
• aluminium
• conductive plastic
• gun metal

Stainless steel containers are available in AISI 304 or AISI 316L with silicone gaskets.

Special holders are also available to allow multiple containers to be used simultaneously.

Liquid Injection Option

As an optional feature, Alphie mixers can be designed to allow liquid injection during the mixing process.

With this option:

• the mixer continues operating
• a predefined quantity of liquid
• is injected into the mixing container at specified intervals.
